When It Works

Bloom's Taxonomy Revisited

Been working with a friend who is an expert at instructional design to create conditional releases for content in the Immigrant Literature course. It’s my version of No Scholar Left Behind. Students have to get 70% or higher on each of the four parts of the weekly assignments before proceeding to the next week’s content. It’s all about supporting critical reading skills and accountability though some may argue that students have a right to fail and audit a course without the pressure of a passing grade. I admit their argument is valid though my teaching philosophy is not predicated on knee-jerk democratic notions of equity that permit the majority to fail so the minority can profit at their expense. We’ll see how it works because the downside, if there is any, is I have to get the grading done post haste each week. After the first one, things should run more smoothly.
